Chennai Police have expanded their investigation into the alleged sexual abuse of minor girls by granite businessman R Veeramani. A former employee of Veeramani has been arrested for possessing a video related to the case. This individual reportedly failed to report the video to authorities, raising further concerns in the ongoing investigation.
Ganeshan, who worked with Veeramani’s Gem Granites group for 23 years before joining another company, was arrested by the Central Crime Branch.
Investigators allege that a video found on his mobile phone showed a man purportedly resembling Veeramani in an obscene act involving a minor girl. Police are probing how Ganeshan obtained the video, who gave it to him and why he allegedly did not alert the authorities. Police allege that the couple helped manage a house rented by Veeramani in Teynampet, where minor girls were allegedly brought. The probe has now expanded, with investigators saying at least nine women have come forward alleging that they were sexually abused when they were minors. Police are also investigating whether the alleged abuse continued over several years. Questions have since been raised over why Veeramani was not arrested at that stage.

Veeramani, along with Shanthi and her husband Mahendra Simhan, was arrested earlier. Their statements are being recorded before the special POCSO court. The case came to light after a pen drive containing purported video evidence surfaced last year and an FIR was registered.
