This statement comes in response to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s criticism of the government’s foreign policy and its relationship with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
Gandhi Critiques Modi’s Foreign Policy, Sparks BJP Backlash
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s recent comments on the Modi government’s foreign policy have ignited a political controversy. Several senior leaders from the BJP condemned Gandhi’s remarks, labeling them as “indecent”. Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for prioritizing personal relationships over national interests, asserting that the Prime Minister’s primary role is to safeguard India’s interests rather than engage in “mere friendships”.
During his speech, Gandhi stated, “You aren’t just visiting a friend’s house. In this role, the Prime Minister of India doesn’t engage in mere friendship. They have no interest in friendship; their job is to protect the country.” He expressed confusion over the government’s approach to foreign relations, questioning the notion that diplomacy equates to physical displays of affection, such as hugging politicians.
To illustrate his point, Gandhi hugged Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit on stage, further emphasizing his criticism of the Modi administration’s diplomatic strategy.
