Thiruvananthapuram: Devan, an actor and former leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), announced on Monday that he has been offered the position of Kerala state president by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). He is scheduled to hold final discussions on this opportunity with party chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay on September 10.
Earlier reporting noted: Actor Devan, who recently quit the BJP, has revealed that actor-politician C Joseph Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has offered him the post of its Kerala state president, setting the stage for the Tamil Nadu-based party’s possible expansion into Kerala. Devan, who served as the BJP state vice-president, resigned last week citing differences with the party leadership and its style of functioning. “They (TVK leadership) have verbally offered me the post of the state president of the party in Kerala. I had a few video-conference calls with some of the party’s leaders. But Vijay will take the final decision. I don’t know what he’s thinking. I have been watching him. Vijay’s political movement is not new.
In 2021, he had joined the BJP after merging a party he led with it. “Vijay has been practically implementing these ideals over the past 100 days. Earlier reporting noted: Devan said he resigned from the BJP on August 16 after spending nearly five years in the party without being given a meaningful role. A final decision is expected after he meets Vijay in Chennai after September 10.

Devan, an actor known for playing characters with negative shades in Malayalam and other South Indian film industries, said he and Vijay have similarities in political approach with common goals such as ending corruption and striking down on communalism.
