Sri Lanka suffered a disappointing end to Day 2 of their second Test against India, losing two wickets in just three overs before Stumps. The most controversial dismissal came on the final ball of the day when nightwatchman Prabath Jayasuriya was adjudged LBW off the bowling of Manav Suthar. The decision by Pakistani umpire Ahsan Raza was tight, with replays indicating the ball was only marginally clipping the off-stump. Frustrated by the call, Jayasuriya expressed his anger by throwing his gloves as he left the field.
The Sri Lankan batters also seemed upset that umpires Raza and Sharfuddoula Saikat had decided to keep the game going till 6 PM local time, despite diminishing light at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. The match was resumed at 5:35 PM local time after a second rain delay, but only three overs of play were possible. Sri Lanka trail by 495 runs, having lost opener Lahiru Udara (one) to a brilliant diving catch by Yashasvi Jaiswal at third slip on a rain-hit day at Colombo’s Sinhalese Sports Club ground.
“We are behind (in) the game now,” Sri Lanka paceman Asitha Fernando said after the day’s play.
