He defeated his rivals by a huge margin, becoming the first Independent candidate to hold the position in the students’ union’s history. Delhi University Election Results 2026: Deepanshu Shokeen has scripted history by securing the vice-president post in the Delhi University Students’ Union election 2026 as an Independent candidate.
A graduate of Bhagat Singh College, Shokeen had been keen to enter student politics despite his father’s wish that he prepare for the Union Public Service Commission examinations. The student leader had also taken a strong stand following the PG accommodation collapse in Delhi’s Satya Niketan, vowing not to wear slippers until justice was delivered. Shokeen had initially sought a ticket from the National Students’ Union of India. He filed his nomination as an organisation-backed candidate but was later asked to withdraw it. He refused and chose to contest independently.
He said his backing came from students across sections, including those who are politically active as well as neutral students and those who are not involved in student politics.
