India has called for significant reforms to the United Nations Security Council. The country argues that changes are necessary in the council’s working methods, membership structure, and decision-making processes. This call for reform aims to align the council with the realities of the 21st century and to restore trust in the UN’s primary security body.
India Advocates for Enhanced UN Participation and Transparency
India has emphasized the need for increased involvement of all UN member states in crucial decisions, particularly in the selection of the secretary-general. During a recent address, India’s representative, Patel, highlighted that countries contributing troops and police to UN missions should play a more significant role in decisions regarding mandates and resources, as they are directly impacted by these operations.
Additionally, Patel called for improved transparency in the UN Security Council’s processes for listing and delisting individuals associated with terrorism. She cautioned against decisions influenced by narrow political agendas, insisting that designations and removals should adhere to objective criteria and be supported by relevant documentation.
