Investment platform Groww has made US stock investing available to all customers, completing a phased rollout that began around four weeks ago. This allows investors to buy and sell US-listed stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) directly through the Groww app, extending the platform’s investment offerings beyond domestic markets.

Harsh Jain, Co-founder and COO, Groww, said: “Many Indians today follow global companies, consume global products, and work in globally connected industries. The offering also supports fractional investing, allowing customers to purchase portions of individual shares rather than investing the full amount required to buy one share. Access To Us Stocks And ETFs Through the platform, Indians can buy and sell shares of internationally recognised American companies such as Apple, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Tesla, Alphabet, Amazon, Meta Platforms, among others. Investors can also access ETFs offering exposure to broader market indices and specific investment categories. The platform allows customers to trade stocks and ETFs, review market information, identify trending securities, and monitor their international investments alongside their existing holdings. They increasingly think about investing from a global perspective as well. US stocks, hence fit naturally into our broader vision of providing investors access to a wide range of wealth-building opportunities through a single platform. How Investors Can Get Started Customers can access the US Stocks section under Products and Tools in the Groww app. After selecting the feature, they can initiate account activation and complete the required onboarding process. Investors are asked to confirm personal and financial details, including their employment status, annual income bracket, liquid net worth, and primary source of funds. Once the necessary verification is completed, they can start investing by adding money through the netbanking flow as per the supported bank. Groww currently identifies HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, IDFC First Bank, Axis Bank, and Kotak Mahindra Bank among the supported banks for online funding. Customers can transfer funds through the applicable bank-authorised remittance process. Once the amount is successfully credited to their US dollar balance, they can select an eligible US stock or ETF and place a buy order through the app. The platform also permits customers to link multiple eligible bank accounts, subject to the applicable verification and outward remittance requirements. Adding Funds Through HDFC Bank: Step-By-Step Process For customers holding an HDFC Bank account, Groww has outlined a digital funding process that includes bank authentication and transaction verification. Enter the amount to be transferred and choose the linked HDFC Bank account under Net Banking (Remittance). Read and accept the bank’s foreign outward remittance terms and conditions before proceeding. After successful verification, the customer is redirected to the bank’s secure authentication page. Customers can select their preferred method to authenticate the transaction. Those choosing Debit Card verification must provide the last four digits of their card, expiry date, and PIN, followed by OTP authentication. The bank then redirects them to Groww, where the transaction status can be viewed. Customers also receive an email notification confirming whether the payment was successful or unsuccessful. The HDFC Bank verification screen has a limited authentication window of approximately five minutes, making it advisable for customers to keep their banking credentials and registered mobile phone available before initiating the process. Funding Through Other Supported Banks Customers holding accounts with Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, IDFC First Bank, or Kotak Mahindra Bank can initiate the funding process through the US Stocks section of Groww. The process broadly involves selecting a linked bank account, entering the amount, providing the necessary declarations, and completing the bank’s authentication requirements. The specific screens, verification methods, and processing steps may differ depending on the bank. Customers are required to follow the instructions displayed during their respective banking journeys. Expanding International Investment Access Groww’s international investing service is offered through Groww IFSC Private Limited, which holds Global Access Provider and broker-dealer registrations under the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA). For Indian residents, overseas investments are subject to applicable foreign exchange regulations, including the Reserve Bank of India’s Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS). Investors must also consider currency conversion charges (which can vary for different banks), taxation, and the risks associated with international equity markets. The introduction of US stock investing adds another asset category to Groww’s existing investment services. By bringing domestic and international investment access into a single application, the company aims to simplify portfolio management for customers exploring opportunities across global markets.

The service provides access to more than 10,000 US-listed stocks and ETFs, giving investors exposure to diversify their portfolio across themes such as AI-tech, SaaS, semiconductors, space-tech, etc. These include Vanguard S&P 500, Invesco Nasdaq 100, SPDR S&P 500, VanEck Semiconductor, among others. Step 1: Initiate the transfer on Groww Open the Groww application, navigate to the Profile section and select ‘Add money’ beside the US Stocks balance.
