Neeraj Chopra Gives Major Injury Update, Eyes Return To Training

The setback brought an early end to his season, forcing him to miss both the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games and the Diamond League Final. The 28-year-old javelin star, who won gold at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and silver at the Paris Olympics in 2024, sustained the injury during training in August.

Two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra says he plans to resume training and begin rehabilitation in the coming weeks, with the ankle injury that ruled him out of the recent Asian Games in Japan showing significant improvement.

“My injury is much better now.

I faced some issues initially in the first month and a half, but it has improved significantly,” Chopra told SAI Media.

He had also claimed a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in July. His last competition of the season came at the Lausanne Diamond League on August 21, where he finished second.

Chopra said he followed his medical team’s advice and focused entirely on recovery. “I have been part of the TOPS Core Group for a long time, and whenever I need any support, they are there,” he said. “With schemes like this, as equipment starts being manufactured in India, it will become much easier for athletes to access it,” he said.
