The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has submitted a supplementary chargesheet in the ongoing investigation into Reliance Communications Ltd (RCom). This case involves an alleged loan fraud amounting to Rs 1,200 crore. Officials confirmed the filing on Friday, marking a significant development in the investigation.

The chargesheet was filed before the Special Judge for CBI Cases in Mumbai and names Amitabh Jhunjhunwala, Group Managing Director of the Reliance ADA Group, for alleged offences of criminal conspiracy, criminal misappropriation and cheating, according to an official statement. The agency said it has so far arrested seven accused in the Reliance ADA Group cases and “all the accused persons are presently in judicial custody”.

The agency said its investigation revealed that Jhunjhunwala, who “enjoyed pivotal position in the group”, acted in pursuance of a criminal conspiracy to “cheat State Bank of India to dishonestly and fraudulently avail a term loan of Rs 1200 crore” for Reliance Communications Ltd and Reliance Infratel Ltd. The agency said further investigation into the role of other accused and other aspects of the case was ongoing. The investigation in these cases is being monitored by the Supreme Court, the statement said, adding that it “remains committed to conducting an expeditious and comprehensive investigation into these cases”.
