The Directorate of Education has also introduced optional advanced-level assessments in Mathematics and Science. It includes exam rules and promotional rules. This helps students who want to test their understanding beyond the prescribed syllabus. The changes make school education more skill-focused, flexible and competency-based.
Delhi government has announced major changes to the subjects and assessment system for Class 9 students. Vocational Education and a third language will now be compulsory for Class 9 students under the new framework.

New Third Language Assessment for Class 9 Students
Schools will now assess a third language for Class 9 students, categorizing them as either “Qualified” or “Not Qualified.” Students who do not pass this assessment can still advance to Class 10 if they meet other promotion criteria. However, it is mandatory for them to successfully complete the third-language assessment before they are eligible to take the Class 10 board examination.
New Curriculum Changes for Students Starting in 2026
Starting in the 2026-27 academic year, schools will introduce modules on Computational Thinking and Artificial Intelligence. These subjects will become mandatory for all students from 2027-28.
In addition to these new subjects, the revised curriculum allows students to choose Mathematics Advanced, Science Advanced, or both, while still requiring all students to take regular examinations in Mathematics and Science based on the established syllabus.
The updated curriculum also designates Art Education, Physical Education and Well-Being, and Individuals in Society as compulsory areas of study for all students.
