The Connecticut Sun honored Alyssa Thomas by retiring her No. 25 jersey on Friday night. Thomas, who played for the franchise for 11 years, was instrumental in leading the team to two WNBA Finals and six consecutive playoff semifinals. As the Sun prepares to relocate to Houston next year, they are recognizing many of their former stars this season. During the ceremony, the crowd erupted with chants of “AT” and gave Thomas a standing ovation, celebrating her significant contributions to the team.

She was the centerpiece of the franchise for so many years, playing through injuries, including torn rotator cuffs. She is the team’s all-time leader in points, rebounds, games, minutes and assists She was affectionately known as the engine by the fans for her work ethic and how she made the team go. The Sun will honor two more former franchise members later this season when they retire Tina Charles’ jersey and coach Mike Thibault.
The Sun spoiled Thomas’ night, beating Phoenix 75-72. Thomas had 10 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals, but was 4 for 10 from the foul line.
They’ve already honored Jonquel Jones, Curt Miller and Jasmine Thomas earlier this season.
