Court Quashes Cases Against Comedian Raina After Compliance with Directives
The Supreme Court has quashed all criminal cases against comedian Raina and four others after they complied with previous court directives. The court had earlier reprimanded Raina for making insensitive jokes about disabled persons and mandated him to conduct awareness programs and raise funds for individuals with disabilities.
On Friday, a bench consisting of Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice JV Mohana acknowledged the efforts made by Raina and his associates to organize shows benefiting persons with disabilities. This decision comes after the court imposed a fine of Rs 3 lakh on Raina during the last hearing for failing to meet the undertakings to rectify his actions. The court noted their compliance and praised their initiatives, leading to the quashing of the criminal cases filed against them.
