Authorities in Maharashtra’s Thane district have detained three individuals on charges of defrauding a local resident by falsely promising him a job in the state government. The arrests were confirmed by a police official on Friday, highlighting ongoing concerns about employment scams targeting job seekers in the region.
Crime Branch Investigates Fraudulent Scheme Involving Forged Government Documents
The Crime Branch is investigating a fraud case involving the use of fake government documents after a complainant, Darshan Santosh Patil, reported being deceived. On Thursday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amarsingh Jadhav revealed that the accused had presented Patil with counterfeit letters featuring forged signatures and seals from senior officials at Mantralaya, complete with the national emblem.
After realizing he had been defrauded, Patil filed a police complaint, leading to the arrest of three individuals. During the investigation, authorities recovered numerous fake government letterheads, forged rubber stamps, and official seals bearing the names of high-ranking Mantralaya officials.
The police are currently looking into how the accused obtained these forged materials and whether they have targeted additional victims. “We are also probing whether the accused duped more people,” Jadhav stated.
