A Delhi court on Wednesday sought an action taken report from the Delhi Police on a plea seeking registration of an FIR against a student activist and her father, who participated in the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest in June, over alleged derogatory social media posts about Hindu deities.
Court Orders Police Report on Assault Case Involving Influencer
Chief Judicial Magistrate Mridul Sharma of Patiala House Courts has issued a notice to the Delhi Police, requesting a report from the station house officer (SHO) of the Parliament Street Police Station regarding actions taken on a recent complaint. The case is scheduled for a follow-up on January 28.
This plea arises amid ongoing legal troubles for self-styled influencer Swatantra Bhardwaj, who faces allegations from the Delhi Police for assaulting a 38-year-old father after he participated in a CJP protest on June 23 with his minor daughter. Bhardwaj has been charged under the SC/ST Act and is also implicated in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) case stemming from complaints made by the minor girl, who reported online threats and harassment. Last week, he was granted three-week interim bail in the assault case.
In court, Sachdeva expressed concerns that the posts related to the case remain publicly accessible, claiming they have “outraged religious feelings and those of other Hindus.”
The plea also sought an investigation against the girl’s father, alleging that the account was being operated by his daughter from their household and that the allegedly offending content was not removed despite notice.
