Court Grants Last Chance to Yadav in Loan Default Case
The high court has granted actor Yadav and his wife a two-week reprieve to repay a ₹ 5 crore loan taken in 2010 for the film ‘Ata Pata Lapata’. The couple was sentenced to three months in prison on July 10 for failing to meet their repayment commitment, which had grown to ₹ 8 crore.
During the hearing, the bench expressed concern over Yadav’s theatrical reputation in Bollywood, cautioning him against ‘performing drama’ in court. They emphasized that this extension is a final opportunity for him to comply with the court’s September 8 order.
Yadav’s lawyer, Patwalia, noted that sending Yadav to jail would not benefit the complainant, Murli Projects, as they would not receive their money. Yadav had previously spent over four months in jail before being bailed out by his peers.
Murli Projects, represented by senior advocate Ajit Kumar Sinha, has been unable to recover the owed funds. Sinha clarified that the principal loan amount now stands at ₹ 7.5 crore, excluding interest, and mentioned that the property Yadav referenced is currently mortgaged.
