A 16-year-old boy’s emotional appeal for help with his younger sister’s eye surgery has received an overwhelming response online, with strangers donating more than Rs 1.5 lakh within 24 hours. Jay Singh Rathore took to social media to share his family’s difficult situation and seek financial help for his 12-year-old sister, who he said was at risk of losing her eyesight. He appealed to people to contribute whatever they could, even Rs 10 or Rs 20, towards her treatment.
The teenager said the family had already spent more than Rs 2.5 lakh on her treatment but needed another Rs 1.2 lakh for the next surgery.
The family took her to Dr. Shroff’s Eye Hospital in Delhi, where doctors diagnosed her with glaucoma and vitreous hemorrhage, an internal eye bleed that was affecting her vision. Reacting to the post, one user wrote, “Glad the community came through so quickly. Safe travels and all the best for the appointment. Another commented, “I hope our little sister will have a successful treatment. We are praying for her.”
