On Sunday, the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) announced that all necessary measures will be considered

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is set to hold a meeting of its National Working Committee on Monday. The agenda will focus on evaluating how well the government has met its commitments made following recent protests. This assessment will guide the CJP’s next steps in response to the government’s actions.

CJP Calls for Preparedness Amidst Government Concerns

On Sunday, the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) announced that all necessary measures will be considered to ensure the government meets its commitments, including the possibility of renewed nationwide peaceful protests. This call to action comes as the CJP expressed serious concerns regarding the Union government’s behavior following the suspension of an initial protest movement on July 25, which was halted based on official assurances. In light of these developments, the CJP has urged students, young citizens, and volunteers across the country to remain ready for any forthcoming actions.

Despite the court’s repeated requests, the CJP alleged that the government failed to commit to submitting the list. The CJP noted, “The Supreme Court asked the Union Government three separate times to provide a consolidated list of FIRs registered against students and protesters across the country so that the Court could use its extraordinary powers under Article 142 of the Constitution to quash them all at one go.

The bench repeatedly sought government cooperation to clear legal cases pending against demonstration participants, according to CJP leaders.

Government Accountability Under Scrutiny After Protests

The CJP has pointed out that despite the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan following initial protests, significant commitments from the government remain unaddressed. Key issues include the complete withdrawal or quashing of all protest-related FIRs, assurances against future punitive actions for peaceful protesters, and written commitments for ‘honourable compensation’ for the families of the deceased NEET victims. The lack of formal outreach from government representatives to discuss progress on these matters raises concerns about accountability and the fulfillment of promises made to the protesters.
