A transformer theft plan in Punjab’s Moga ran into an obstacle: the mud. The alleged thieves ‘ car got stuck in a waterlogged paddy field, and when they returned with a recovery truck to pull it out, that too became trapped.
Villagers Apprehend Suspect in Transformer Theft Attempt
In Takhtupura village, villagers apprehended Lovepreet Singh, a resident of Alkada village in Barnala district, late Saturday night as he and two accomplices allegedly attempted to steal an electricity transformer from a farmer’s field. Singh was subsequently handed over to the police.
Authorities have registered a case against three individuals: Lovepreet Singh, Jasdeep Singh from Khote village in Moga, and Wakil Singh from Goneana in Bathinda district. Police have taken Singh into custody and seized both the vehicle used in the attempted theft and the recovery truck.
The other two suspects remain at large, and police are actively working to locate them. DSP Nihal Singh Wala Anwar Ali confirmed that one suspect has been arrested and a case has been filed against all three.
Investigations are also underway to determine if the suspects have been involved in previous thefts of transformers and electricity equipment in rural areas.
