Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s recent six-day official visit to the United Kingdom has come under fire from opposition parties. During the trip, his government announced investment commitments totaling ₹ 15,300 crore. However, both the AIADMK and BJP have criticized the visit, labeling it a “pleasure trip” and casting doubt on the legitimacy of the new investment claims.
Palaniswami Questions Vijay’s UK Trip
AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami has raised concerns about actor Vijay’s recent trip to the UK. He noted that the actor traveled without the state industries minister or the industries secretary, implying that the trip might not have been primarily aimed at promoting investment. This statement was reported by PTI.
BJP Criticizes Government’s Investment Claims in Tamil Nadu
BJP Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagendran has characterized the recent government trip as a “pleasure tour.” He accused the administration of misrepresenting existing companies as new investments, raising concerns about transparency in economic reporting.
“If the CM had travelled specifically to attract industrial investments, it would have been appropriate to take along the Industries minister or the Industries secretary. “Chief Minister Vijay’s London trip should be seen only as a pleasure tour. It is a complete lie that Chief Minister Vijay brought investments to Tamil Nadu.
The visit was part of Tamil Nadu’s roadmap to transition into a USD 1.5 trillion economy by 2036 under a transparent and efficient administration, the release said.
Palaniswami said the absence of key officials from the industries department had raised questions about the purpose of the visit. But travelling without key department heads raises serious questions,” Palaniswami told reporters. They are pointing out already existing companies as new industrial investments,” Nagendran said.
